It's certainly not an easy task raising children with the likes of Charlie Sheen. Denise Richards -- Sheen's ex-wife and mother of his two young daughters, Lola, 5, and Sam, 6 -- recently told Access Hollywood that she's doing her best to shield their children from their dad's wild ways.
"I think a lot of people are concerned about Charlie and my concern is obviously…what becomes difficult is things become so public," Richards said. "I try my best to keep that quiet from our daughters because, you know, this is something I've never dealt with in my life until this situation."
Since splitting from Sheen in 2005, Richards has had her fair share of Sheen drama to deal with. With the Two and a Half Men star's alleged alcohol and drug benders, Richards often has to do damage control with their girls.
"I'm learning how to deal with it," she explained. "Just keeping a lid on it for our kids has been my main priority. It does become difficult."
Last year, Sheen, Richards and their daughters all took a trip to New York, which unfortunately ended with police being called to the actor's hotel room. Sheen had gotten drunk with porn star Capri Anderson, was allegedly doing hard drugs and ended up trashing his hotel room. Though their relationship has improved greatly over the years, Richards admits she's still baffled by some of her ex's actions.
"The last two years, Charlie and I have been in such a much better place and it makes it so much easier for our daughters," she said. "When we went to New York, that was our intention -- to have a nice time with the girls. I thought it was great that we could all travel together and go out to dinner and do things even though we're not together anymore." "The events that took place after that, you know, it was...difficult."
